On Location

Sound is usually the most overlooked aspect of a video project. However, when watching a finished product, poor sound is often the element that classifies a project as ‘low budget’, no matter how much was spent. So why is sound so often overlooked when it is so important? My theory is that there are so many pieces to the video part of the puzzle…or the “look” (which camera to use, shooting style, lighting feel, location, wardrobe, makeup, etc). With so many elements to video, it is easy to get wrapped up in all that during pre-production. But, when your viewer watches your project, there are only 2 things that matter…what is seen and what is heard. It is a 50/50 split. Have you ever watched something with really bad sound? How long did you watch it? How enjoyable was your viewing experience?
